There
is not so much information about this little hound in Iran.
Even most of the local and western people, do not know that
this old breed extant in Iran. When I looked for old painting
Tazis in Iranian miniatures, I fond in some of these documents
that aside Tazis, Iranians were taking another dog to their
hunting tribes. These dogs have medium size and hair, mostly
with white, brown or two color coat,
hanging down ears
and long tail. For me, these drawings were the first step for
looking after this breed in Iran of today, because all of these
miniatures were from 16-18 centuries. When I completed the Tazi
page with interviews of Iranian Tazi experts, Dr. Monica Dahnke
told me that she saw some white little hounds in Kurdistan of
Iran in many years ago (1977-8). Even Mr. Cyrus Sattarzadeh,
another expert of Iranian Tazis, certified this view and added
that this dog is called "Findo" by the local people of Kurdistan
of Iran.
In
February 2000 one of my friends asked about these dogs in Kurdistan
of Iran and he was told that this breed still extant in Iran
but they call it as "Tuleh Farangi" (it means foreign puppy)
because the roots of this
dog back somehow to old western imported dogs (may be from England)
in this area. In
some hunting articles I saw the name "Tuleh Englisi" (English
Puppy) with Iranian hunters, but it's not sure that this dog
is a western spaniel hound or just the same little Iranian Terriers.
May be like other Iranian native dogs this
breed has some different names by different local people in
other towns of Iran too, but right now we know only about these
dogs in the Kurdistan area of Iran.
